Jamie's 'Redcoat' Military Uniform Season 5, Episode 7, 'The Ballad of Roger Mac' Comprising: a custom-made cotton shirt, with keyhole cut-out, intentional faux blood staining on cuffs and collar; stock; a grey waistcoat in textured wool; with breeches in brown-grey; and a woollen militia jacket in red, with blue cuffs, and shoulder embellishment, with metal silver-coloured buttons, some pieces labelled '2.Jamie', (5) Footnotes: In Season Five of Outlander, Jamie is confronted with increasingly complex political pressures as he is required to uphold appearances before Governor Tryon. Charged with hunting down his godfather Murtagh, Jamie must navigate the dangerous task of contradicting the Governor. As part of this strategy, he is seen wearing a redcoat uniform, a visually and emotionally charged moment, and something Jamie did not want to do. Speaking at a press tour, Sam Heughan says, 'from the beginning of the season to his father's death to Black Jack Randall, the redcoats really suppressed the Scots. So for him to have to wear a red coat, it's a storyline that is not so much in the book, but the writers did a great job in sort of really digging into that storyline. And we see Jamie have to sort of go against everything he stands for, for the greater good, for the good of the people he's trying to protect. Yeah, so to see Jamie Fraser in a redcoat for me was kind of full circle and kind of terrifying at the same time.'
