A Theodore Roosevelt White House Wine Glass from the 1902 State Service. Albany: Van Heusen Charles Company, 1902. Etched glass, produced for use with President Theodore Roosevelt's 1902 White House china service. The bowl finely decorated with an etched eagle derived from the Seal of the United States, enclosed within an elegant floral border interspersed with stylized eagles. Ordered through the Van Heusen Charles Company of Albany, New York, and intended for use alongside the celebrated Wedgwood service commissioned for the Roosevelt White House. Height: 5 in. (12.7 cm) Provenance: Sold Heritage Auctions, 2 December 2008, lot 47094). A rare surviving example of White House tableware associated with the Roosevelt administration, reflecting the refined Edwardian taste, patriotic decorative motifs favored during the early twentieth century and refined American craftsmanship. Charles Van Heusen wrote to the White House:' Would you be kind enough to inform Mrs. Roosevelt that the glass service has been completed, and we will forward it at once to the White House.
