Colonial Resistance to British Authority. Supplement to the Boston Evening-Post. Boston: July, 14, 1766 and July 3, 1769. No. 1609 and 1762. Broadsides (385 x 240 mm and 385 x 244 mm). A few small tears, some staining, rape remnants to the edges of no. 1609. Issue 1609 of the Supplement to the Boston Evening-Post features the proceedings of a case in which the British appointed governor is seeking to recover costs from the colonial Massachusetts Bay House of Representatives for damages done to the homes of British loyalists during the rioting that took place in Boston between August 1765 and June 1766. These actions taken by colonial Patriots were in response to increasing British control and taxation on the colonial population, including, most notably, the Stamp Act of 1765. In the end, the House refuses to pay for the damages and even commends the actions of the Patriots saying that the citizens of Boston have nothing to be ashamed of, highlighting the mounting tensions and increasing resistance from the colonists to British authority.
