Engraved map hand-colored in outline. 723 x 1371 mm, on 3 sheets, light browning, a few small chips alone edges, a couple of tiny stains, laid down to board. Depicting Pennsylvania during the lead up to the Revolutionary War including its western frontier region as well as the recently established Mason-Dixon line. Scull's map was included in Jefferys' American Atlas published in 1776. William Scull, grandson of colonial Surveyor General of Pennsylvania Nicholas Scull, was a commissioned officer in the 11th Pennsylvania Regiment during the Revolutionary War. He resigned the post to take a position on Robert Erskine's staff in the Geographer's Department of the Continental Army. Phillips, p.674.
