Asahel Curtis Gelatin Silver Print. CURTIS, ASAHEL. 1874-1941. Gold Hill Mining Operations above Grand Forks, Yukon Territory, c.1898. Silver gelatin print, signed in the negative ('Curtis 1006'), matted, framed in Curtis Studios Batwing frame (unexamined out of frame). 8 x 9 3/4 in. (20.3 x 24.8 cm) Overall 11 3/4 x 13 in. (29.8 x 33 cm) Provenance: From the Collection of Dr. Billy T. Utley. From 1897-1899, Asahel Curtis and his brother Edward agreed that Asahel would spend time in the Yukon documenting the Klondike Gold Rush. Oh his return, following a bitter dispute over the rights to Asahel's Yukon photos, which Edward Curtis had published under his own name, the brothers parted and never reconciled. This image shows placer mining operations, wooden sluice boxes, and Gold Hill above the Forks. Lot to be sold without reserve.
