This elite Russian surgical institution held this title from approximately 1798 until its absorption into Moscow University in 1845. FIRST EDITION of the only published portion of Arent Cant's intended masterwork on human anatomy. Cant, a brilliant student of Frederik Ruysch, drew the highly accurate illustrations himself. He was one of the first anatomists to incorporate the grid-reference identification layout pioneered by Eustachius, keeping the printed anatomical plates entirely clean and unmarred by cross-reference letters on the figures.
