Monkey with skull Wolfgang Hugo Rheinhold, after (1892 - 1993) galvanoplasty, dark patinated. Sculptural depiction of a monkey sitting on a stack of books in a pensive posture, holding a skull in his right hand and his left hand supporting his chin. On a stepped, almost square base. H. 32 cm The figure shows a humorous depiction of the ''thinking monkey'' as an allusion to Shakespeare's Hamlet ('to be or not to be') and at the same time to Darwin's theory of evolution.
