A BLUE AND WHITE CANDLESTICK, A CHAMBER POT, A CHINESE IMARI HANDLED SPITTOON AND A BLUE AND WHITE MYTHOLOGICAL SUBJECT DISH 18th century The candlestick in the form of a bamboo section with applied dragon handle, with a foliated drip pan decorated with a river landscape; the mythological dish after a European print depicting The Fall of Phaëton; the chamber pot and cover decorated with river landscape scenes; the handled spittoon in the Chinese Imari palette, decorated with peony and chrysanthemum sprays. The part of the Teyler print here shows a group of River Gods in distress, who had petitioned Zeus to stop Phaëton's uncontrolled chariot ride because it had caused their rivers to dry up.
