A decorative and complete mid-20th century Japanese tea set in the Satsuma export style, dating to circa 1950. The set is finely decorated in polychrome enamels and gilding, with raised moriage slip work and applied dragon motifs in relief.

The decoration features haloed figures of Arhats (Buddhist disciples) in elaborate robes, set amongst stylised clouds, waves and scrolling gilt ornament in the traditional Dragonware manner. The combination of textured moriage decoration, richly enamelled surfaces and gilt highlights gives the set a richly decorative appearance.

The set comprises a teapot with dragon-form spout and figural finial, covered milk jug and sugar bowl, five teacups with matching saucers, together with two additional covered vessels.

Each piece bears a red and gilt character mark to the underside. The set remains housed in its original black faux crocodile fitted presentation case, lined in red silk and blue velvet with shaped compartments for each piece.

Condition: Good overall condition with no visible chips or cracks observed. Some light wear and rubbing to the gilding and exterior case with wear consistent with age.
