Footnotes: The Mercedes PS 160 engine was better known as the D.III. It was a six-cylinder single overhead camshaft valvetrain liquid-cooled inline aircraft engine built by Daimler. The initial versions were introduced in 1914 and produced 160 horsepower. During the opening year of the First World War, unarmed aircraft such as the Albatros BII became increasingly vulnerable to the increasing numbers of armed military aircraft fielded by the Allies. In response to a requirement formulated in late 1914, Albatros designed the CI, based on the BII, the CI reversed the pilot and observer seating so that the observer occupied the rear cockpit which was provisioned with a machine gun, typically a ring-mounted 7.92 mm Parabellum MG14. The aircraft was also furnished with a more powerful powerplant, such as the 160 hp Mercedes D.III engine, and had relatively favourable flying characteristics. Lot to be sold without reserve.
