A Luristan bronze disc with a Master of Animals Circa 8th-7th Century B.C. 12.2cm diam. Footnotes: Provenance: with Fortuna Fine Arts, New York. Private collection USA, acquired in the 1990s from the above. with Arte Primitivo, New York, July 2014. This large disk shows a bearded man wearing a long, patterned robe and grasping an ibex by its rear legs in each hand, and was once part of a sizeable pin; see a comparable example from the Nasli M. Heeramaneck collection now in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, which measures 12cm in diameter and features a bearded man grasping lions (P.R.S. Moorey et. al, Ancient Bronzes, Ceramics and Seals, Los Angeles, 1981, p. 78-79, no. 386). It is noted that pins of this scale were most likely votive, and have been discovered deposited in large numbers at temples and sometimes built into the walls of shrines (p. 67).
