A unusual late 19th century French carriage clock with double repeat button GL, No. 2157 The case sumounted by a silvered Greek key shaped carrying handle over a glass observation window, beside an unusual double repeat button to the front and back, the sides supported by four simple Doric topped columns intercepted by bevelled glass observation windows, to a plinth base and further raised on four block feet. The 3 inch white enamel dial with black Roman numerals and blued steel hands framed by an intricately engraved and gilt mask. The twin train movement powered by a pair of going barrels, repeating and striking on a blued steel gong mounted to the back plate, stamped with the maker's mark GL and numbered 2157, the back plate with unusual strike work with the rack and snail mounted to the back plate to accommodate the double button repeat, with a silvered platform escapement, currently ticking and striking. 20cms (8ins) high.
