The present lot relates to Vaughan's bold charcoal drawings he started the previous year under the influence of Mario Dubsky, one of his pupils at the Slade. Vaughan's drawing became bolder and more heavily worked for a period, after Dubsky demonstrated various methods of shading and creating dark tonalities.
