(verso) The oil painting Untitled (Trees and Canal, Belgium) is a similar view to a sketch Lanyon drew, inscribed Sluis - Bruges Canal, while on holiday in Belgium and Holland with his sister and mother in the summer of 1937. He may have then painted the picture whilst on holiday or when he returned home in St Ives. The reverse, Untitled (Church Tower Under Scaffolding), is most likely a church scene Lanyon painted whilst he was on the same holiday.
