(or vice versa), original morocco, upper cover with gilt-stamped border enclosing title, g.e., worn, oblong 8vo (180 x 225mm.), [c.1885] Footnotes: John Lindt (1845-1926) accompanied Sir Peter Scratchley's expedition to the Protectorate of British New Guinea as official photographer, succeeding in taking images of indigenous groups, local villages, and views throughout the country. On his return he used his images for various purposes, issuing them as cheap postcards, reproducing them in his Picturesque New Guinea (1887), exhibiting them at the Indian and Colonial Exhibition in London (1886), but also, as here, in bespoke albums of original albumen print photographs.
