Khampa dzong was a fortress in Tibet, approximately 15 miles north of Sikkimese border, strategically placed on the major Himalayan trading route linking India to Tibet. 'Here, in 1903 prior to the invasion, the final attempt for meaningful negotiations took place between Younghusband and White with the Tibetans, trying to settle the differences that ultimately led to the British invasion' (K. and P.D.
