Rifles', the obverse of the medal bearing the head of King Edward VII, the reverse depicting the Potala palace in Lhasa and lettered 'Tibet 1903-4', recipient's details engraved on rim, with ribbon, together with 2 further medals (British War Medal 1914-1918; Edward VII Volunteer Long Service Medal ) awarded to Hodges, with a collection of ribbons (small group) Footnotes: The medal was presented to members of Younghusband's Tibet Mission, and the accompanying troops who served at or beyond Siliguri from 13 December 1903, to 23 September 1904. Provenance: Walter H. Hodges (1868-1938), who acted as assistant to the Political Officer at Sikkim from 1890 to 1917, firstly for John Claude White, then Sir Charles Bell. At the the time of the Younghusband's Mission Hodges was based at Gangtok, seeing the expedition set off to Tibet; by family descent to the vendor.
