'Britannic'', 40 large albumen print views by Kerry & Co. (captioned in the negative, 268 x 350mm.), and 2 collodion prints by Enos Pegler (145 x 205mm., see footnote), original red morocco, gilt-stamped with title on the upper cover, g.e., oblong folio (320 x 415mm.), [photos taken 1880s, album 1901] Footnotes: Unusually large format views of 1880/90s Sydney (14) and New South Wales (Picton Viaduct, Miner's hut in Lithgow Valley, Freshwater river, Dolgelly Bore, Ilawara District, Kunring-Gai Baym, seven scenes of Burrawong Station including shearing, etc.), from the studio of Charles Kerry, whose 'splendid 12 x 10 pictures of the streets of Sydney... are magnificent social documents of the times... better than any written description' (Jack Cato, The Story of the Camera in Australia, 1955). Provenance: A soldier in the 3rd Battalion Scots Guards. The Guards were amongst the Imperial troops that travelled on the White Star liner Britannic to Australia and New Zealand, to attend events surround the inauguration of the first Commonwealth Parliament. He identifies himself (as 'self') in the photograph taken by Enos Pegler of the 'Imperial Officers, Mayor & Council. Palmerston [N.Z.] on Feb. 12 [19]01'. The other Pegler image depicts Guardsman Peter McCulloch ('6ft. 11') shaking hands with a local little person.
