Sterling Silver Centerbowls, New York, c. 1885, likely designed by Charles Osborn, marked mermaid: 7338/8934, mermen: 7358/8984; each featuring a chased aquatic motif, one with mermaids and the other mermen, with a hammered silver gilt finish and engraved armorial to the bowl interiors, dia. 12 1/2 in., approx. 148.3 troy oz. Note: The design of these pieces closely relates to other works designed by Osborn including the Fitch punch bowl and the 1885 Goelet Cup (see John Loring, Magnificent Tiffany Silver, 2001, pp. 152-3 and 179).
