Bebe Daniels (January 14, 1901- March 16, 1971) born Phyllis Virginia Daniels in Dallas, Texas, began her acting career at the age of 4 where she went on tour in a stage production of Shakespeare's 'Richard III,' earning her the accolade for 'The World's Youngest Shakespearean Actress.' Daniels began her Hollywood career during the silent film era as a child actress, earning her first leading role at the age of seven, as the young heroine in 'A Common Enemy.' At the age of nine she starred as Dorothy Gale in the 1910 short film 'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.' By 14 she was already a film veteran and was enlisted by Hal Roach to star as Harold Lloyd's leading lady in his 'Lonesome Luke' silent shorts. Unlike many actors, the arrival of sound posed no problem for her; she had a beautiful singing voice and seamlessly transitioned into talkies, and became a major musical star, with such hits as Rio Rita (1929) and 42nd Street (1933.) Later, she gained fame on radio and television in Britain. Over the course of her 50-year career, Daniels appeared in 230 films. Throughout the 1950s, Marchal, a retailer of fine jewelry located on Fifth Avenue in NYC, created customized charm bracelets in 14kt gold for female guests appearing on 'This is Your Life,' a weekly, half-hour TV show hosted by Ralph Edwards. Many of the guests gifted a bracelet on the program were celebrities- including Bebe Daniels, a versatile performer whose career began in the silent film era.
