FABRIQUE NATIONALE "L9A1" HIGH POWER SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH PROVENANCE. Cal. 9mm Luger. S# 215RP52571. Bbl. 4 5/8". L9A1 semi-automatic pistol mfg. in Belgium by Fabrique Nationale under contract for the British military. The left side of the slide is marked "FABRIQUE NATIONALE HERSTAL BELGIQUE" above "PISTOL AUTOMATIC 9mm L9A1", "BROWNING'S PATENT DEPOSE" and "FN 1978", with "1005-13-010-0475" marked on the right. Left side of the frame is marked "1005-13-010-0478", with "FN 1976/ 1005-13-100-3352" marked on the left side of the bbl. Right side of frame (on forward trigger guard web), slide (interior), and bbl. exhibit Belgian commercial proofs. Right side of the frame and slide exhibit "01-162572" within a milled panel, with the frame also being marked with the FN factory S# "215RP52571" on the front grip strap. Metal components exhibit a matte black enamel type finish (above a phosphate finish) overall, save for on the bbl., which is polished in-the-white. Frame is fitted with 2-piece checkered black synthetic grips. Interestingly, the lanyard stud and ring are absent, although the frame is slotted for the stud. Slide features an external extractor, with a fixed half-moon blade front sight, and dovetailed square notch rear sight. All serialized parts are matching via "01-162572" in the "stacked" fashion, and include the frame, slide, and bbl. MAGS: 1 proper 13-rd. mag., with blued button type floorplate, marked "1005-13-010-0319/ (FN MONOGRAM) 1978". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: page of notes from Charles Wagner detailing this pistol, as well as an invoice from William O. Drollinger (William O. Drollinger is described as a noted American High Power Collector in Blake Stevens' book, "The Browning High Power Automatic Pistol") dated April 16th of 2001, which includes this pistol on the inventory list. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their arsenal black enamel finish, exhibiting some light to mild wear and thinning (primarily on edges), with scattered superficial handling marks, and some spots of flaking present overall. Front grip strap appears to have been cleaned at some time, exhibiting some striations and retaining a smooth appearance. Very bright bore, exhibiting some areas of mild pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Grips show some smoothing, as well as some superficial marks from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable.
