CARBINE. Cal. 52. S# 222. These carbines were the predecessor to the Gywnn & Campbell carbines. There were approx 1100 of these produced for a US Govt contract with most going to the 5th & 6th IL Cav. This example has transitional features with the serpentine lever found on the contract type carbines, however it has a rounded early type lockplate. The hammer is a period blacksmith quality replacement. It has a replacement walnut buttstock with no markings. CONDITION: overall fair. Metal has a dark brown patina with pitting. Stock is in good shape, but does not fit rec tightly. Added bbl band. Bore is dark with pitting. (01-29040/ZAL). ANTIQUE. $1,000-1,500.
