A group of Holocaust material, includes: an NSDAP printed photograph showing a young Jewish boy selling various wares on the street, 11 x 8 in. b/w, titled ‘From Ghetto Jews to Arsonists of the World! So it begins! Already the ‘deeds’ of Jewish youths [are] everywhere – the old man knows that his offspring will sell off the old things only for profit’. WITH: four postal covers (only) sent from Charlottenburg to New York, Connecticut and China, with censor’s paper strips on verso. Together with: a postal cover bearing an NSDAP ‘Artbeitsamt Warschau’ postmark; and a postcard written by Schmerl Israel Fernbach residing in Vienna, 1940, to a doctor in Wilmington, DE. Fernbach, who is trying to escape, writes in typescript: ‘…As I have now learned from the Kultusgemeinde [Jewish Community of Vienna], which is now dependent on Berlin, one cannot obtain a single penny for ship tickets, and whoever has no other way of obtaining them must remain here. Such difficulties are piling up against our journey that I doubt we will be able to travel at all. At present, the route via Siberia (travel time, 42 days), is being proposed, but that it completely out of the question for us…’. He adds in holograph, roughly translated: ‘complete uncertainty, no passage possible via Lisbon, Portugal. Please during the summer…send small packages…as we now need them…’. Overall very good.
