Description

(1927 - 1967) Russian cosmonaut, the first human being to die during a space flight. He became the first Soviet cosmonaut to fly in space twice when he was selected as the solo pilot of Soyuz 1, its first crewed test flight. A parachute failure caused his Soyuz capsule to crash into the ground after re-entry on 24 April 1967, killing him instantly. Rare signed S.P., 4 x 6 in. color, a 1964 Pravda-issue color postcard honoring Komarov's participation in the Vokshod mission, shows him in military uniform in a color portrait. Signed by Komarov in black ink beneath the caption, the last letter slightly feathered. The card also bears a 1964 Russian postage stamp and cancel honoring the Vokshod mission crew. Near fine.
