STS-67 commemorative First Day Cover autographed by five members of the six-person crew: John M. Grunsfeld, Wendy B. Lawrence, Tamara E. Jernigan, Samuel T. Durrance, and Ronald A. Parise. Postmarked Hampton, Virginia, July 20, 1978, on the First Day of Issue for the Viking Missions to Mars stamp, the cover commemorates one of NASA’s most scientifically productive Space Shuttle astronomy missions. Flown aboard Space Shuttle Endeavour from March 2–18, 1995, STS-67 carried the Astro-2 observatory, conducting around-the-clock ultraviolet observations of stars, galaxies, quasars, and interstellar matter during what was then the longest Shuttle mission to date.

John M. Grunsfeld (b. 1958) is a NASA astronaut, astrophysicist, and veteran of five Space Shuttle missions. Nicknamed “The Hubble Repairman,” he participated in three servicing missions to the Hubble Space Telescope and later served as NASA’s Associate Administrator for the Science Mission Directorate.

Wendy B. Lawrence (b. 1959) is a retired U.S. Navy captain and NASA astronaut who flew four Space Shuttle missions and played an important role in the Shuttle-Mir program and International Space Station assembly.

Tamara E. Jernigan (b. 1959) is a former NASA astronaut and physicist who flew five Space Shuttle missions, logging more than 1,500 hours in space, including a spacewalk during the first International Space Station assembly mission.

Samuel T. Durrance (1943–2023) was an astrophysicist and NASA payload specialist who flew aboard STS-35 and STS-67, conducting pioneering ultraviolet astronomy research using the Astro observatory.

Ronald A. Parise (1951–2008) was an astrophysicist and NASA payload specialist who flew on STS-35 and STS-67, making significant contributions to ultraviolet astronomical observations conducted from the Space Shuttle.
