Edgar Dean Mitchell (1930-2016) was a United States Navy officer, test pilot, aeronautical engineer, and NASA astronaut. As Lunar Module Pilot of Apollo 14, he became the sixth person to walk on the Moon during the mission of February 1971. Mitchell spent over nine hours conducting lunar surface exploration with mission commander Alan Shepard and was a member of the third successful lunar landing mission. Following his NASA career, he remained active as an author, lecturer, and advocate for scientific and human potential research.
