Outstanding archive relating to the first aerial circumnavigation of the world in 1924, comprising six signed items from several of the pioneering aviators who accomplished the historic feat. Included is a copy of The Authorized Narrative of The First World Flight, fourth impression (Houghton Mifflin Company, 1927), signed and inscribed on the opening pages in ink and fountain pen by Erik H. Nelson, Leigh Wade, Henry H. Ogden, and author Lowell Thomas. Also included is an original 8 x 3” swatch of wing fabric from the Douglas World Cruiser Chicago, annotated and signed in black ink by Louis S. Casey, Assistant Director for Aeronautics at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, identifying the relic. Completing the archive is an autograph letter signed by Leslie P. Arnold, co-pilot of the Chicago, together with three individual autograph signature sheets signed by John Harding Jr., co-pilot of the New Orleans; Lowell H. Smith, pilot of the Chicago; and Erik H. Nelson, pilot of the New Orleans, with Nelson signing his sheet twice.

Overall very good to fine condition. The book retains its original dust jacket, which exhibits heavy wear and chipping consistent with age. The accompanying documents, signatures, and Douglas World Cruiser fabric relic remain well preserved.

On April 6, 1924, four Douglas World Cruiser aircraft departed Seattle on an unprecedented attempt to become the first aircraft to circumnavigate the globe. After more than 26,000 miles of flying across North America, Asia, Europe, and the Atlantic, two aircraft—the Chicago and the New Orleans—successfully completed the journey on September 28, 1924, establishing one of the greatest milestones in aviation history.
