Details:
New-Hampshire Sentinel (Keene, New Hampshire), collection of eleven Civil War-era newspapers published between 1861 and 1863. The group includes issues dated March 6, April 10, October 16, and December 26, 1862; January 16, February 13, June 25, October 15, and December 25, 1863; along with two additional issues from the same period. Published throughout the Civil War, the newspapers contain extensive reporting on military campaigns, battlefield developments, political events, casualty reports, correspondence from the front, editorials, local news, advertisements, and official notices, offering a contemporary record of New Hampshire’s wartime experience.
Folded as issued with expected age toning, scattered foxing, handling wear, and edge chipping. Several issues exhibit small losses at the margins, old library or ownership markings, all consistent with age and use.
Founded in 1799, the New-Hampshire Sentinel was one of New Hampshire’s leading nineteenth-century newspapers and served as an important source of state and national news. During the Civil War, it provided regular coverage of military operations, political developments, and the contributions of New Hampshire regiments, making surviving wartime issues valuable primary sources documenting the conflict from a Northern perspective.
