A COLLECTION OF HANDWRITTEN MUSICAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR BARBRA STREISAND, DARLENE LOVE, NANCY SINATRA, CHET BAKER, AND OTHERS BY ARRANGER, PRODUCER, AND FILM COMPOSER JACK NITZSCHE Musical arrangements with handwritten annotations by Jack Nitzsche for approximately 70 songs for various artists including Nancy Sinatra's 'These Boots Are Made For Walkin' (1966); Barbra Streisand's album Superman (1977); Chet Baker's album A Taste Of Tequila (1966); Phil Spector's Christmas album (1963); and numerous songs for Darlene Love, Paul Anka, Bobby Darin, Doris Day, Jackie DeShannon, Lesley Gore, Glen Campbell, Bob Lind, The Marketts, and others. Footnotes: Provenance: The Collection of Jack Nitzsche. Jack Nitzsche began his musical career as a jazz saxophonist and was hired by Sonny Bono at Specialty Records to be a music copyist. After writing songs for Jackie DeShannon, he was soon recruited by Phil Spector to be his arranger, composer and right-hand man on the infamous 'Wall of Sound' recordings throughout the 1960s, the culmination of which was Ike and Tina Turner's 'River Deep, Mountain High'. Although Spector is readily credited with having created this deep, layered sound, it is Nitzsche who is generally accepted as the architect of the Wall of Sound, successfully interpreting Spector's musical ambitions and having the skill to commit them to paper in his arrangements, some of which are included in this auction. Footage of Spector and Nitzsche in the studio show Spector struggling to explain a concept one of the assembled musicians and in frustration instructs Nitzsche 'Jack, tell him what I mean!'. In fact, Spector spoke at Nitzsche's funeral and summed up their relationship by saying 'Without Jack Nitzsche, there would have been no Wall of Sound'. Lot to be sold without reserve.
