Offered here is the 1940 Play Ball Ted Williams card (#27). This issue is significant as a second-year card appearance for Williams in Gum Inc.'s classic black-and-white 240-card series. Ted Williams played 19 seasons with the Boston Red Sox, winning two Triple Crowns and two American League MVPs, and remains the last Major League player to bat over .400 in a single season (.406 in 1941).
