Prototyp des späteren Summicron. Die Blende schließt bis 22. Im Jahr 1950 wurden insgesamt 83 Exemplare dieses Objektivtyps mit Seriennummern im Bereich 812242 - 812359 gefertigt. Die gegenüber dem Summitar deutlich verbesserte Abbildungsleistung wurde durch die Verwendung eines hochbrechenden Glases für die Linsen 1, 3 und 6 erreicht. Dabei handelte es sich noch um das von Chance Brothers gelieferte SBC Glas, das unter Verwendung von radioaktivem Thoriumoxyd gefertigt wurde. Kurze Zeit später gelang es, im Leitz Glasforschungslabor das thoriumoxydfreie LaK9 mit ähnlichen Brechungseigenschaften zu erschmelzen, was dem späteren Summicron zu seinem Weltruhm verhalf.

Prototype of the later Summicron. Aperture closes down to 22. In 1950, a total of 83 units of this type of lens were manufactured within serial number range 812242 - 812359. The significantly improved imaging performance compared to the Summitar was achieved by using a high refractive optical glass for elements 1, 3 and 6. This was still the SBC glass supplied by Chance Brothers, which was manufactured using radioactive thorium oxide. A short time later, the Leitz glass research laboratory was able to melt the thorium oxide-free LaK9 with similar refractive properties, which made the later Summicron world famous.
