Amanda Baldwin
American, b. 1984
Amanda Baldwin’s still lifes and landscapes recast the familiar with luminous colors, graphic patterns, and skewed perspectives. Moving between abstraction and figuration, her representations of everyday objects suggest the layered effect of collage. After receiving her MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2012, Baldwin has exhibited in New York City, receiving acclaim for her reinterpretation of time-honored genres. Her works can engage with hyperrealism and Surrealism, mix flatness with depth, and blend painterly strokes with surfaces reminiscent of digital painting. Baldwin captures the essence of objects, whether fruits or vessels, and, with her off-kilter approach, convenes scenes that suggest deeper narratives.
