Gina Beavers paints images from the internet in high relief, turning slick digital aesthetics into tactile, 3D objects. Building up thick acrylic brushstrokes and foam on linen on panel, Beavers renders elements from bodybuilder selfies, makeup tutorials, and pictures of food that she finds on social media platforms and beyond. At the heart of her practice lies an interest in the curation and artifice of contemporary visual culture. Beavers received her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has exhibited in New York, Berlin, Los Angeles, London, Stockholm, Seoul, and Milan. Her work belongs in the collections of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, Pérez Art Museum Miami, and the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami.
