Executed in soft tones with a refined eye for expression, the works portray two children with delicacy and warmth. The artist’s handling of form and focus on character — particularly in the eyes — is typical of her accomplished pastel style. Emily Eyres exhibited at the Royal Academy in London between 1899 and 1904, showing works such as A Bachelor and Shadows. Based in Walton-on-Thames, she was active in Edwardian artistic circles alongside her husband, landscape painter John W. Eyres. The portraits are presented in their original giltwood frames, which retain an attractive later gold leaf surface sympathetic to the period. Condition: Very good condition overall.
