Title: Pair of Fine Sevres Style Cobalt Blue Rams Head Lidded Urns Description: Pair of Fine Sèvres Style Cobalt Blue Porcelain and Gilt Brass Ram's Head Lidded Urns We are pleased to offer a fine and highly decorative pair of large Sèvres style cobalt blue porcelain and gilt brass lidded urns, dating to the late 20th century. Of impressive scale, each urn stands 90 cm high and features a rich cobalt blue porcelain body decorated with elaborate hand-painted gilt ornament. The ovoid bodies are centred to the front and reverse by finely executed gilt starburst motifs and flanked by imposing gilt brass ram's-head handles, from which descend finely modelled fruiting vine and foliate garlands with white enamelled highlights. The tapered necks are enriched with scrolling gilt foliate decoration, while the spreading porcelain socles are similarly decorated with elaborate gilt leaves and scrollwork. Each urn is raised on a substantial square brass plinth base with a shaped apron and surmounted by a removable domed cover with brass mounts and decorative finial. Each urn is constructed in three principal sections comprising the lid, body and base. Commissioned as a one-off pair in the late 1980s, these impressive urns were created in the manner of Sèvres porcelain, after classical examples housed in the Hermitage Museum, St Petersburg. Their impressive scale, rich cobalt blue ground and extensive gilt decoration give them considerable presence, making them particularly well suited to a grand entrance hall, reception room or formal interior. Offered in very good condition commensurate with age. The cobalt blue ground remains rich in colour and the gilding is generally clean and well preserved. There is minor verdigris and age-related wear to the gilt metal and lacquered brass mounts. No damage to the porcelain.
