Dating from the late 19th century, circa 1890, these substantial gilt metal bodies are of particularly good decorative quality, with rich neoclassical ornament throughout. Each lamp features cast relief decoration depicting playful putti amongst scrolling foliate ornament. The elegant pouring lips are enriched with finely detailed leafwork, complemented by stylised scrolling handles. Soft sage green painted accents to the necks and bases provide an attractive contrast against the warm gilt surfaces. The lamps stand on elaborate tripartite bases with paw feet and bold rococo-inspired mounts, giving the pair excellent decorative presence.
