Malatya Rug Anatolia c. 1850, a very rare Malatya small rug in very good condition. While the field design might be mostly found on rugs from the Konya region at the time, this rug brings some East Anatolian charm with its various shades of madder including a tomato red and a pleasant Burgandy shade. Additionally, if you look at each medallion, you can see playful variations of motif placement and creative uses of space. Horizontal hooked lines jut out from the vertical S-minor border with various shades of speckled blue. These archaic elements harken back to the playfulness of earlier Karaman and Karapinar archetypes. Please let us know if you need a high-resolution picture to see the details. Provenance: The James D. Burns Collection 3 ft. 1 in. x 6 ft. 10 in. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com For further information about this lot please visit the lot listing
