Inlaid and Mahogany Veneered Ash, Cherry, Poplar, and Cedar Chest of Drawers Herter Brothers (active 1864-1906), New York, New York, c. 1880 The match-veneered top slightly overhangs conforming elliptic-front case, which contains one row of split drawers over three graduated drawers constructed with dovetail and rabbet joints, the fronts inlaid with lighter wood forming vine-and-berry scrolls around hardware, the full drawers retaining period drawer pulls with backplates impressed 'P.E.G. / N.Y.' on reverse, original escutcheons, and locks; all raised on carved ogee bracket paw feet in the front, and square rear legs, impressed 'HERTER BRO'S' on back, 119cm wide, 60cm deep, 81cm high (47 1/4in wide, 24 1/2 in deep, 32in high).
