A PATTERN 1777 SHORT LAND SERVICE MUSKET. 42 in., .80 caliber barrel with ring decoration at the breech and Tower ordnance proof marks on the top; convex lock plate with double line border engraving, the pointed tail with worn 'TOWER' engraving and a trace of the crown over 'GR' below the pan; walnut stock with storekeeper's mark on the butt and assembly and inspector's marks in the rammer channel; brass furniture including a butt plate with a short pointed tang, thumb piece engraved 'D/37' replaced flat side plate, trigger guard with acorn finial, four rammer pipes and a nose cap, steel rammer with button head and plain end. Overall lg. 57 7/8 in. Condition: Iron toned to deep brown; top jaw screw is an old replacement and frizzen has been refaced but upper part of face is broken; stock has sliver losses along the rammer channel and scattered dings and dents, brass toned to deep yellow brown, action functions properly.
