A SPRINGFIELD STANDARD MUSKET OF 1815 TYPE IV WITH ORIGINAL BAYONET AND SCABBARD, 1818. 42 in., .69 caliber barrel marked at the breech with 'P', eagle's head, 'V' proof marks, the top marked 'ce60' and the breech plug tang dated '1818'; flat lock plate with pointed tail marked 'SPRING/FIELD/1817' and with a spread wing eagle over 'US' below the pan; walnut stock with 'V/JN' mark behind the side plate; iron furniture of proper form, the butt plate tang marked 'US'; later steel rammer with button head, sling swivels; with original matching bayonet marked on the socket 'ce60' and 'US/JA' on the blade, leather frog and scabbard with brass tip. Overall lg. 57 3/4 in. Condition: Iron toning to mottled gray/brown; stock has a loss along the left edge of the breech plug tang and a short crack at the forward end of the lock mortice; lock functions properly; bayonet is toned to mottled brown, scabbard is in good overall condition with surface abrasions.
