This appears to be an authentic Light Cavalry Saber Model 1860 that was manufactured by Mansfield & Lamb in Forestdale, Rhode Island in 1863. Inspected by C.E.W. which designates Charles E. Wilson, an official US Government Ordnance Inspector who certified and accepted weapons for military use during the Civil War. This sword features a solid brass hilt, leather neck at bottom of blade, braided wire wrapped leather handle, and a polished steel blade with fuller showing excellent patina. Comes accompanied with a steel scabbard stamped on end “A.C.R.J” on one side, and “2E 70” on the other. Which most likely refers to 2nd Cavalry, Troop E, Weapon #70 Rack number. The other side could be referring to some sort of State Volunteer Militia or National Guard unit from the 1800s. Either way I’m sure this sword has rich history.
