Mott the Hoople self-titled debut album cover, personally signed by lead vocalist Ian Hunter in bold black marker across the front cover. Released by Atlantic Records in 1969, the band's acclaimed debut introduced their distinctive blend of hard rock, folk, and Dylan-inspired songwriting, featuring tracks including "You Really Got Me," "At the Crossroads," and "Rock and Roll Queen." Produced by Guy Stevens, the album marked the beginning of one of Britain's most influential rock groups before their later commercial breakthrough with *All the Young Dudes*.

The front cover reproduces M. C. Escher's famous lithograph *Reptiles* (1943), while the reverse features the companion crocodile illustration by artist M. C. Escher-inspired designer Andy Johns.
