Details:
Genesis Publications' Sometime in New York City is a spectacular deluxe limited edition celebrating the life, activism, and creative partnership of John Lennon and Yoko Ono during their years in New York. Produced in association with the Estate of John Lennon, the oversized volume combines John Lennon's writings with Yoko Ono's reflections and the iconic photography of Bob Gruen, creating one of the finest published visual histories of the couple's New York period.
This limited edition is hand-numbered 53 and is one of only 3,500 copies produced by Genesis Publications, with the first 2,500 copies personally signed by both Yoko Ono and legendary rock photographer Bob Gruen. Both signatures appear prominently on the limitation page. The deluxe production is further distinguished by its striking brushed aluminum front cover plate secured with exposed metal rivets, a black leather spine with matching riveted construction, and its original custom solander presentation box featuring a protective interior tray and publisher's letter.
Covering the years following John Lennon's move to New York City, the volume chronicles one of the most influential periods of his life through hundreds of remarkable photographs by Bob Gruen, many published here for the first time. The book captures Lennon and Ono both publicly and privately, documenting life at the Dakota, recording sessions, political activism, concerts, family moments, and everyday scenes throughout New York during the 1970s.
Interwoven throughout are personal writings and commentary from John Lennon and Yoko Ono, providing firsthand insight into their artistic collaboration, social causes, friendships, and creative process. The result is an unusually intimate portrait that moves well beyond a traditional photography book, serving as both an historical document and personal memoir of an era that continues to define modern popular culture.
Produced to Genesis Publications' renowned standards, the volume features heavyweight art paper, exceptional full-page photographic reproductions, premium printing throughout, and an innovative industrial-inspired binding that reflects the urban character of New York City. The brushed aluminum cover plate gives the edition a distinctive sculptural quality rarely encountered in fine publishing, while the original decorated solander box provides both protection and an elegant presentation.
Fine condition overall. Yoko Ono and Bob Gruen's signatures remain bold on the limitation page. The aluminum cover plate is clean and well preserved, with the leather spine, interior pages, and binding remaining exceptionally crisp. The original solander presentation box and interior tray are present and display only light expected shelf and handling wear.
An exceptional Genesis Publications production documenting one of the defining artistic partnerships of the twentieth century. Combining original signatures from Yoko Ono and Bob Gruen with one of the publisher's most innovative deluxe bindings, this scarce limited edition represents a highly desirable addition to collections devoted to John Lennon, The Beatles, Yoko Ono, rock photography, twentieth-century music, and fine press publishing.
