Description
A cardboard field post (Feldpost) parcel wrapper printed with a label reading "Feldpost," with blank lines for "Absender" (sender), "An" (addressee), and "Feldpostnummer" (field post number). The printer's code "M/0978" appears in the lower corner of the label. Such wrappers were used for packages sent to and from German military personnel during the Second World War. The Feldpost system provided free or low-cost postal services for German armed forces personnel throughout the Second World War, using coded Feldpostnummer designations rather than unit names or locations to preserve operational security. It handled enormous volumes of letters and parcels between soldiers at the front and their families at home, becoming a vital link for morale and one of the most extensively documented aspects of everyday wartime military life. Surviving wrappers and correspondence of this type are widely studied by historians researching civilian-military communication and the logistics of the German military postal service.
