Roman or Late Roman Green Glass Bottle with Applied Spiral Trailing

Description

A blown green glass bottle of globular form with a tall cylindrical neck and thick rounded rim, the body extensively decorated with applied horizontal glass trails wound in a continuous spiral. The underside with a pushed-in base and central pontil area. The form and construction relate to Roman and Late Roman trailed glass vessels.

Size: 4 in. high.

Provenance: Property from an important private collection, assembled by a dealer and collector over more than six decades.

Condition: Extensive surface deposits and weathering, with losses and deterioration to portions of the applied trailing; scattered surface wear and encrustation. Overall form appears substantially complete. Please refer to photographs.
