Description
A French Model 1829 Mounted Artillery Saber in good to very good condition. The French Model 1829 Mounted Artillery Saber was a cavalry-style edged weapon issued to French mounted artillery personnel during the 19th century. Introduced under the reign of King Charles X, the M1829 was designed as a practical weapon for artillerymen serving on horseback, combining the mobility and handling characteristics of a cavalry saber with the robust construction required for military service. The saber features a curved, single-edged blade and a protective brass hilt, and examples were manufactured at French state arsenals and private facilities during the period. The Model 1829 remained in French military service through much of the 19th century and represents the equipment of the mounted artillery arm during an era when horse-drawn artillery played an essential role on the battlefield. Today, original examples are collected as important pieces of French military history and 19th-century arms development.
