GAZDAR: CITRINE CLIP BROOCH, CIRCA 1945 Step-cut citrines Signed Gazdar Length 3.7cm Weight approx. 14.5g Footnotes: Gazdar was founded in 1933 by brothers Rusi and Dinshah Gazdar. Their boutique was established in the Taj Mahal Hotel which in the 1930s was enjoying worldwide notoriety, becoming frequented by prominent royal and political figures. As such, Gazdar's designs caught the eye of Indian Maharajas and foreign dignitaries, later attracting the patronage of the celebrated director, Alfred Hitchcock, and Hollywood stars including Gregory Peck and Shirley Mclean. Gazdar took inspiration from European jewellery design, and built their reputation on using fine quality gemstones and natural pearls, crafted into jewels by highly-trained Indian, Austrian and Sri Lankan craftsmen. During the late 1970s, the firm acquired notable jewels from the Nizam of Hyderabad. OVERALL CONDITION Some surface wear commensurate with age to unhallmarked metal testing as 16kt gold. Signed GAZDAR. CITRINES Displaying yellowish-orange transparent hues, one stone with eye visible chip and two conchoidal fractures, light abrasion to remaining stones visible under 10x magnification.
