Edward Lear (British, 1812-1888). Hand-colored lithograph on heavy cream-toned paper depicting a mature white-headed eagle and an immature mottled eagle perched on a rocky outcrop. Executed with a palette of earth tones, whites, and yellows, with fine line work defining the plumage. Titled WHITE HEADED EAGLE in the center lower margin with the scientific name Haliaetus leucocephalus; (Savigny) below. Signed in the stone E. Lear del at the lower right. Features a discrete collection stamp in the lower right margin for the BILTMORE HOUSE LIBRARY ASHEVILLE, N.C.
