Made in Canada. 1920 - 1930. Lithographed Tin. November 1902: U.S. President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt went on a bear-hunting trip in Mississippi. When his guides captured and tied a black bear to a tree for him to shoot, Roosevelt refused, deeming it unsportsmanlike. Inspired by the cartoon, Brooklyn candy shop owners Morris and Rose Michtom created a plush bear and displayed it in their shop window labeled "Teddy's Bear" after receiving Roosevelt's permission to use his name.
