S#: 70N47734 | Mfg. 1977 | Rare and highly desirable 1977 Colt Gold Cup National Match Series 70 converted to the legendary Bullseye-Ready Pachmayr Combat Special. It is said that some customers had a waiting period for up to 4 years to have these built during the heyday of Target 1911s in the 70s. The Combat Special was not simply a factory Colt Gold Cup. Pachmayr custom gunsmiths, including Tom Dornhaus and Craig Wetstein, developed the Combat Special beginning around 1972, combining the Colt Gold Cup National Match platform with extensive hand fitting and custom modifications. Estimates place production at only approximately 300–600 examples, with configurations varying according to customer-selected options and gunsmith work. This specific example began as a Colt Gold Cup National Match Mk IV/Series 70 exhibits numerous markings and features documenting its Pachmayr customization including the interior of the slide is marked “Pachmayr/Los Angelas PCS165,” while numerous components are electropenciled “734,” corresponding to the final three digits of the Colt serial number |||| FEATURES: Extended Dual-Port BAR STO Stainless Barrel and bushing, full-length guide rod, Bo-Mar rear sight with red-insert front blade sight, an adjustable, A.D. Swenson/Fallbrook, Calif. marked ambidextrous safety, reshaped and checkered trigger guard, vertically serrated adjustable trigger, matted upper slide, beveled magazine well, and extended slide stop. The pistol is fitted with characteristic Pachmayr rubber grips and comes with (1) Pachmayr stainless-steel magazine marked with Pachmayr logos on the left side and fitted with a checkered rubber base pad | This one is certainly worth doing the research on and a prized piece to add to your Colt collection |||| CONDITION: Very Good. 98% Original Matte Hard Chrome finish with some minor storage marks. Scattered surface rust spotting and overall would benefit from an extensive cleaning and polishing from where it’s been sitting. Mechanically functions with an incredibly smooth action and crisp trigger pull. When holding this pistol, you can just feel the quality and passion that went into this build.
